Carlos Maceo wanted to catch a snakehead on a fly....
He brought Jimmy Mejia who had never used soft plastics before.....
OK....no pressure.
We met up at 0545, there were a few boats at the ramp but relatively quiet.
That would change later.
But the boys were happy to be on the water.....
The tide was coming in so we decided to float up the creek....never got a hit! But Carlos would change that later when he caught the light looking sunnie....
Man, you would never know you are within a stone's throw of the Nation's Capitol!
We did a lot of admiring of the scenery and the fish did a lot of turning their noses at our baits. Man they were finicky. The water was clear as was the sky...
but no worries, we were confident.
Carlos kept us entertained.....

Finally, I jumped a decent keeper....
...saw him come out of the weeds and take the bait (just bought it from Dan last night). Cool sight fishing.
Then I heard the sound I wanted to hear. It was Jimmy saying, "I got him"!
This would be Jimmy's 1st ever LMB using artificial bait. Very cool. Earlier on, I noticed that when he cast, he would sweep the rod so I showed him how to load and fire. In no time at all, he was making monster cats.
We had a great time despite having to work our tails off for a few fish but they kept us in the game.
My last fish was interesting. I threw a swimmer as it got close to the boat, the bass nudged my bait. We literally passed over the bass and I threw a few feet back. I saw him move and take the bait. So I slammed him!
I guarantee he will not forget that hook set.
We rode the tide out trying for snakeheads and Carlos got jumped but he was not able to get a hook set, it was on spinning gear. The hearts were pounding with anticipation of another hit but it was not to be.
We got off the water around 1PM and on the way back, we stopped for an espresso.
But who did we run in to?
Mo had taken the family tubing and were lunching at the Tokyo something restaurant when we barged in to say hello.
Nice arsenal (that's for Carlos) .....
Oh yeah, Jimmy brought a banana. He had never heard of the lore..... ![]()
