9-8-26, a new river

Not THE New River but a new river float for us.

When I was chatting with Chris about what we could do today, he made a suggestion to do a float that he had never done before. He said, "let's do our 1st descend " of this stretch and see what happens. Of course, he had studied it and identified 2-3 places where we may have to get off the raft to float through some super skinny water. Sure enough, we did but it was an easy ordeal for sure. We knew the river levels were low (what else is new?) but we went anyway,

Roney joined us on this float and he was the perfect guy for it as he enjoys these floats as much as I do.

We were to meet at the take out at 7a to run the shuttle only to find th gate locked and they didn't open until 8a. But, there were a bunch of local police cars there so Chris went to investigate and found out that they had some training there at 7:30a. No big deal, we w ill wait. More and more police cars showed up including a SWAT truck and a Command Center truck but they could not get in. Finally, at 7:48a, the park staff showed up and let us in.

We quickly went up to the put is and started the float.

It's an amazing place and we caught at least a baker's dozen fish but no biggies!

I actually got Chris to agree to take a 1st fish pic since this was the inaugural float.

This (and smaller) were the tale of the day.

Roney's lunch was worthy of a picture. His wife made him a nice looking chicken salad sammie.

Chris and I had subs from Sheetz...that's all I could muster up for us. tongue

I need to pass on your guide's business to my co worker.  She and her husband just arrived from Montana and they love fly fishing!

Just short of an hour from my house but safe to say that not too many of us locals have been on it. Would love to repeat it at a higher flow.
