8-27-26, Magothy River

I got an invite, from John K. (a fellow perch chaser) to fish the Magothy River today. After a lackluster 2025, he reported that he's been having some good days perching this summer. Heck yea! After all, it had been over two years (8-5-24 to be exact) since I went white perch fishing.

As I drove over the Seven River, I had a ton of flashbacks of good times on the water there. Carl was the one who introduced this system to me. We would frequent Weems Creek often. Through the years, many memories were made chasing perch in that river.

We were on the water by 7:45a...

It didn't take long to take the skunks off!

Many of the perch we caught had broad shoulders. We had quite a few in the 8-10" range.

Here are some nice fishy spots that look like other areas we have fished before.

John got hit pretty good and declared that he had a pickle on his line. Yep!

He unhooked the toothy critter in the water.

A little later, I got slammed and a nice perch came on board...

A little shy of 12" but it was the big perch of the day.

Slightly after noon John asked if I wanted to have lunch at a waterfront restaurant. Heck yea!    big_smile

Although I was hungry, I ordered two small plates. John had the tune tacos!

Before I ordered my soup, I asked the waitress which of the 2 crab soups were better. She answered, "both". I looked at her and wondered if she was trying to up sell me but she explained that a mix of the Mom-Mom?s Maryland Crab Soup (jumbo lump crab, tomatoes, crab stock, beef stock, country ham, fresh corn, carrots, celery, onion, cabbage) and Cream of Crab (jumbo lump crab, dry sherry, chicken stock, cream, house crab seasoning) would be her preferred method. I ordered it and it was amazing to say the least. The tuna was awesome as well.

What a way to end a great perching day!!

Oh, we caught around 5 dozen perch and many of them qualified as eaters.

Re: 8-27-26, Magothy River

Really glad you made it over Ernie.  As we both noted, it's not like old times as the overall numbers are surely way down, but there are still a reasonable number of nice-sized fish and it's a treat to catch them in the shallows.  The persistent south wind today stifled my pattern of fishing north shore marsh and salt pond outlets that have grasses nearby as the tide was held high all morning, but we still managed a few in most spots.  The plethora of bait seems to be making the perch bite a bit persnickety.  Thanks for lunch and the lures (which I will field test on the next outing).  Great to catch up!   Next time we may be chasing cold water marble eyes.

You more than earned that lunch. You had to work hard to keep us in the zone.

It was great to be out there with another like minded perch enthusiast! Thanks again for the invite...

Everyone was smiling in the pix. Glad to read you both had tight lines & a little variety

And that dock side restaurant looks worth the drive by itself.
