Dang BigJ, out there catchin em in the cold rain huh? You sir are a better man than I am. Keep throwing that jig out there and you will catch a biggun eventually, I guarantee it. We caught a ton of nice fish at beaverdam last spring on jigs. Seems like earlier in the season they like smaller profile, lighter jigs with trailers that have subtle actions. I remember catching a whole mess of smallmouth down by the dam last year, the biggest being well over 3lbs. All came on a 1/4oz black n blue terminator jig with a blue yamamoto twin-tail grub, all in the first week of april. You're right about those snaggy rocks too, I've lost more baits at Beaverdam than I can count on all my fingers and toes. I like to use heavy line and retie often, a nick in the line turns 20lb test into 8lb test real quick. Heavier line also slows the rate of fall on the bait, which is a good thing in colder water. Hopefully the weather shapes up a bit and we can break off some more jigs this weekend If u see a guy with a white visor stormin through the woods with a bunch of fishing poles, make sure you wave hello...good luck dude!!
