Paul was able to block this day off for fishing so we went with CT Campbell in his trusty ClackaCraft drift boat.
We even went on a full moon. ![]()
The day started with cloud cover and air temps at 58-59dF. But once the low clouds burned off, we had a glorious day with temps in the 70's and very little wind.
The water was very clear...we even got to see some nice fish in the byways. I actually threw at a nice one one and he slapped his tail at my lure and kept on trucking to where ever he was going.
We did not see any nests so I suspect most of them will spawn at the next full moon.
It took a few minutes to get the skunks off the boat. Initially, Paul threw a tube and I alternated with some of my trusty favorites.

I remember us being tied 5 to 5 at one time and then CT suggested that one of us throw a 3.5" nose hooked fluke (River Rock). I said it was too early so Paul tied it on.
After a while, I told him that I was glad he listened to my advice
because he tore up the smallies with that bait!

Man, he must have caught more than 2 dozen fish in total. I may have caught 10-12. No monsters today but some decent catching for sure.
The scenery always prevails!
And we saw lots of eagles and hawks!
The day surpassed both of our expectations as early April is a tough time to fish the SF. CT was stoked at the amount of activity we produced (well, mostly Paul).
It was a great day of getting out in the wild. Good for the soul.
When we got home, I hopped out of Paul's truck and got hit 54dF air temps, raw & drizzly. What a difference from where we were.

George and I did a float on the mainstem and it was the exact opposite weather wise. Never saw a peak of sunshine, temps probably never got above 60, mist on and off and wind blowing upstream. Made for some tough fishing but we found a few.
Congratulations on a fun day on the water for you guys

Good job selecting a day and spot that had better weather conditions with some cooperative fish! Looks like a nice day.

We put this day on the books back when we were iced/snowed over in Feb.
Last week, the forecast called for rain and temps in the 50's. But that all changed...for the better. Paul got sunburned legs and a nasty wasp sting to boot!

Nice job
Like Doug said, it was misty, wet, cold where we were. Explosive fluke bite to start the day out, then when the cold wind started, we got ourselves a good workout paddling into the wind.
Okeeee?

The scenery is always premium, and the fish you guys caught were icing. Cool day!
