Wanted to get in a little river outing before the Thanksgiving holiday and it turned out yesterday was the day I could go. A friend from work and his son joined me for a short float. I knew we had rain coming in the afternoon and the forecast of the morning was clouds and occasional rain showers. It got a little windier at times than I thought it was going to but wasn't too bad.
The good news is that two of the three of us avoided a skunk, which was myself and his son. His son caught one about 12 in early in a little deep pocket on a Ned rig. I caught mine towards the end of the floats a Fitt/ old winco's lures chilly Willy on a stand-up jig head. Were just feeling weight and not feeling a hit. A friend from work got skunked and he had I think one hit in a deep hole.
One little high of light was fishing. The first deep winter hole we came to and I was throwing out a rattle trap and lifting and pausing it on the retrieve end. As I got it to the top of the water I saw a fish following it and then turn away. Thought it was a small mouth but saw that telltale white spot on the bottom of the tail and realized it was a nice walleye following it in.
I've never caught one in that stretch of the river but it's a perfect hole to have them.
It definitely wasn't the day I was hoping but we were all glad to be out and not be working.
Enjoy Thanksgiving everybody!

Nice job getting out and catching something in colder water. Not easy with low clear water.
