Chris, George and I went on a recon trip today in Chris' raft. The plan was to beat the rain that was predicted. And the winds.

We do what we have to do!

It was a cool start with low hanging clouds with intermittent sprinkles and mist. Not ideal but not a game breaker. The wind did not show up and the predicted rain won't happen until later tonight. We rolled the dice and won!!

As always...spectacular scenery!!

While smallies (George's was 18") were the obvious target...

...we wanted to key in on walleyes.

We did take a stretch break!

During the break, we ate some pumpkin, chocolate chip muffins made by Chris' mom. They were incredible!!

The bonus fish were a nice crappie...

... and a couple of channel kitties (no pics).

Our conditions were very low flow and crystal clear water. It was a nice float but we were chilly (not cold).

As we drifted some shallow water, I got hit and my fish went berserk! I thought I had a trophy. He had his way with me and once landed, we realized he was a 13" fattie with an attitude!

Towards the end of the float, George hooked into a nice fish but it came off at boat side. I had lost one earlier but it was much smaller.

Within sight of the boat ramp, Chris liked what he saw and said he was gonna try to get one more 'eye. We wear beat by then but he did get one! That made 8 (Chris had the most)  for the day along with 6 smallies, a crappie and 2 kitties.

Great day on the water highlighted by some George Dagwood sammies which we inhaled!

Time to go fishin' again!

Chris is a great guide and teacher.  I learned about walleye on that trip.  Walleye were always bonus fish, but targeting them was another story.

Trip went better than expected.  Well, mostly.  Rain was forecasted to come around 1700.  Weather forecasters lied.  We had an off and on steady drizzle the whole float.  We could also feel the cold coming in from a westerly front.   Combination of the two made it chilly, but bundled up and with waders it was manageable.  But the fishing was great considering the tough conditions.  Despite the cold and tough conditions, top water got the big smallie.

Drive home was a breeze.  I got to be passenger in the limo.  What a comfortable vehicle and the heater kicked butt.

Not sure why I had a frown on my face?  After all, we were catching fish?
