Fountainhead 9/29/25

After a couple unsuccessful shore outings, I had to get out on the water.  Got to the ramp just after 6:30am and talked to a nice guy who fishes tournaments out there while getting everything set to go on the boat.  Beautiful morning.

It took a little while and a broken rod (probably damaged previously) before I got my first fish.  It was a fighter that bit a GOAT on a wobble head.  It had a bloody tail almost like when spawning.

I moved around and got to a spot with a large laydown.  I tossed the GOAT and got it in a great spot next to the trunk where the water starts to get deeper.  I felt a good thump and set the hook and snap.  The line broke.

It was a while before I got another bite.  I ended up downsizing and catching a couple dinks on a 1/32 ounce swim head with Hula Stickz.

Even though the fishing was slow, it was peaceful out with lots of Eagles, Ospreys, King Fishers and other birds.  I saw a dead Mallard duck floating in one spot.

I moved around after eating lunch.  There was lots of shad flicking everywhere.  Without any electronics, I ended up sticking mostly to shorelines and coves.  I finally ended up on the main lake shoreline where I caught the first fish.  There was a red stain in the water kind of like red tide.  It was not really big and looked almost like blood in the water.  It was very strange.

On my first cast with a tube I felt something messing with it.  I set the hook and it was a decent LM.

A couple casts later I got another bite.  A little guy.

I made a few more casts there, but no bites.  It was almost 1:30pm and I did not want to get caught up in heavy traffic on The Fairfax County Parkway which is a mess due to construction, so I started heading back.

On my way, I saw a cove point that looked too good to pass up.  I just motored up to take a couple casts.  I did not even deploy the TM.  After a cast or two, I was drifting into the main lake side of the point and decided to bomb a cast back across the point in deeper water.  I felt a good hit and had a nice fight on with this chunk.

I hated to leave fish biting, but had to go.  I was off the water just before 2pm.  Nice day to be out on the water.  6 fish total.

Nicely done. It's always a great day when you are out on the water and even better when you avoid the traffic.

Time to go fishin' again!
