Beautiful day on the river 8/28

With a week off of work to both burn some leave at work and spend time with the wife before she went to her mom's on Wednesday, that meant trying to line up a float. Checked with George and Leon but only George was free.

Met at the take out @ 7 and fishing about 7:30 or so with air temps just over 60 and a mist on the water.  Absolutely beautiful for the end of August!!!   George started the morning with a couple of little small he's on the fluke.  I was throwing the fluke, swim bait and  of course the Choppo to hopefully recreate a little top water action.

I got my first little smallie a little later on the fluke.  I.believe George picked up a few more on the fluke and swim bait and I got a nice little 15" or so to blast the choppo along the bank.  By the time we stopped for a late lunch, fishing had slowed.  I did put in a small z man swim bait and picked up two quickly back to back.  We had seen 3-4 bald eagles but then had something a little bigger fly over. We heard the chopper and then saw it coming from downriver.  George gave the "we're ok" sign so they flew down the river literally directly overhead.  Low enough we could feel the vibrations from the blades.  A very cool experience.

We were pretty close to the take out and I managed to pull a sleight of hand trick that both of us found hilarious.  We were in a long fairly shallow stretch with a stretch of shady shoreline, so I was throwing the Choppo. Heard the explosion and saw it was a good one with the shallow water.   Got it close to the kayak to get it into the net.  I was getting the net under it and both of saw the lure go flying and both of us let out the NO! But lifted the net out of the water to see the fish in the bottom of the net!!  18" on the nose!

Fun way to end the day. We didn't catch a lot of fish but the weather was amazing, saw wildlife, had a flyover and spent time on the water.  Couldn't ask for much more.

That's the way to net a fish!  Easy release right into the net.  Most aircraft (especially Helos) follow systems (roads/rivers).  Great way to see the land for sure.
