Got out early before the heat and immediately got a hit where all the carp and gar had been spawning just the weeks before. It looked and felt great, but the hydrilla monster took over and it was sucked down deep and I struggled to get it up. By the time I did, it splashed and got off before I could net it.
Within the next 15 minutes, I would get another hit from one that was lurking with it's fins out of the water and I was able to land it. Measured at 30.5 inches.
If anyone has a good technique for gettin through the hydrilla I'd be interested in learning!
I was off the water by 9:30, so not bad for 3 hrs of fishing!
2 fillets cleaned and in the freezer!!

As Capt. Mike always says, you have to know the strength of the vegetation. Up at the Mattawoman, it's 20lb so 20 lb test it is. Rarely did we ever loose a rig. However, with a fish on the line, the rules change. I don't know the rule...maybe 25lb? Heck, just reach down and lip it! ![]()
Greta job on the Channa. I loved the anticipation, the wait and the set!
Pics of the meal are required.

Man that is some thick grass. I wouldn't use anything less than 50lb braid in that stuff. Nice snake!
