Bruce and I met up with Chris Campo to fish in his raft. Chris is a bonafide guide now. Some of you know him as one of the Fletcher's river rats (that's a good thing).
Chris's raft is a comfortable fishing machine and off we went.
The river looked good but a bit pushy. Nothing Chris can't handle.
The top water bite was disappointing. Bruce got a little one (1st fish) and a couple of sniffs on the Whopper Plopper.
I was using a Megabass knockoff and had one completely miss it. That was it.
Overall fishing was slow but steady, they weren't were they were 2 days ago when Chris fished it. But we caught a mess of them, all less than 14". It was fun! Lots of swing and misses as well.

It was fun exploring that part of a river in a raft vs a kayak or jetboat. So many targets...
We did our best and got off the river before the heat came in strong.
And we got a visitor.
Yes, we had plans for lunch.
As you know, George and I discovered Roadhouse Jerk, a Jamaican place a couple of years ago (Point of Rocks). Sadly, Winston had to close it down. Not because the food wasn't good because it was off the hook good! I suspect that he closed due to not having enough business. I’m sure that the average Joe or Joette who went by the place were probably afraid to try an ethnic eatery. Their loss turned to our loss.
Well, now a fella opened up a new joint called Big Belly's.
It's in the same location as Roadhouse Jerk.
We asked what they we known for, they answered and we responded.
These smash burgers were the real deal. Two patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato and grilled onions on a great bread plus a secret sauce that complemented the burger.
All three of us proclaimed that these burgers were as good as any in the area...if not better!!
They also have rice bowls, wraps, flounder sammies and a few other things.
We WILL be back!
Great day out on the water with good friends. And I didn't have to be the skipper!

NICE! I wish I had known about that place as we drove by there Wednesday. Good to see you had some action and I may have to get in touch with Chris.

HEAT ADVISORY!! Brace for a heat index up to 109° Friday,
We started to feel the heat just before 11a...and then at the ramp and parking lot!

Ernie always tells a great story to accompany the photos. Today was my first trip with Chris, and he was excellent. I will look forward to going with him again. One thing Ernie forgot to mention was that even though our Smashburgers were huge, we only got the double patty version. They do have a triple patty version if anyone can open their mouth about ten inches.

Yum. I've wondered how Big Bellies food was. Burger's look like they're the bomb
Should have taken your visitor and tossed him on a weightless hook. May have hooked a big Carp?

We thought about it for sure. Chris found another bug (he knew the name, big eye something) but we let him go too.
BTW, the fluke was semi effective yesterday buy not the 5" one. Had to go smaller. A couple of the smallies we caught coughed up some 2-3" baits.

The baitfish in the river are definitely small.

And the smallies are eating them

Those burgers made the trip worth it I bet!!!
