Got out early again after the rain from last night. Was not sure what to expect. On the water by around 5:30am.
Water was not bad and no real rise. I wanted to try to see if they would hit the Whopper Plopper. I tried a 75 size and got hits, but it took a couple casts until I hooked up.
They did not seem too excited about it, so I tried a little underspin and that was the ticket. Not as much fish busting, but they were feeding. Mostly small to medium size fish.

That lure got messded up, so I threw one of my jigs and felt a good take. I set the hook and it broke off. I should have checked that knot. I tried a different toadstool jig with a Missile Ned Bomb and they liked that. This one was my big fish for the day.

I ended up with 15 at that spot and then it slowed. I made a move to a similar spot. They were still biting there. Got my 2nd plopper fish.

Continued with the underspin.

And my other jig.

And a Z-Man Goat on a wobble head.
I had 20 at that point and made another move. This spot had some feeding fish. Wobble head and tube worked well.

Even a nice catfish that was tough to release as he got his spines all wrapped in the net.
Last fish at that spot.
I had 31 smallies and one catfish. Sun was out and I made a longer run. It was clearer mid-river, so I tried that a little. I threw a crankbait and hooked a smaller fish that self-released at the boat. Then I hooked another.

It was getting humid, and I tried throwing cranks, wobble head and chatterbait. I was pretty much beat after lunch, so I headed back. I made a couple brief stops and threw a crankbait, only missed one smallie and had a near slow motion attack from a big catfish. Off the water by 12:30pm with a final tally of 32 healthy smallies and the one catfish. And a good case of bass thumbs.
