Way to not check river conditions!
At noon on Wednesday, the river was at 5' and rising. At 5pm it was 13"+ and at 7pm it was 15'+. That's a huge (and fast) rise!!

Rescue units are now on their way for a rescue on the river in the area of Sugarland Run. Sounds like somebody got into some trouble, abandoned their boat and now two people are clinging to a tree.
I have now completed nearly all my formal initial firefighter training. Just six more days of class for survival related training.
This was the Lander boat ramp yesterday.

Why would they even go out with the river the way it is?
Congrats Travis!!!

Successfully rescued a male and female from the middle of the river inline with Violettes lock. Montgomery Co boat taking them to the MD side. At least they had the sense to wear PFDs.

Thanks, just a volunteer gig for me.

Never heard anything about it. The county might say something about it in their occasional emails they send out about notable incidents.

Rescue units heading out again to Algonkian, four people requesting help. Two on Pond Island, two more downstream on a 'paddle boat'.
Sounds like Fairfax has been working the incident for a bit. The US Park PD helo is already overhead Trump's golf course.

That's Station 12. I have friends who worked there. A few years back, Bev was in one of the helos and helped rescue someone from a rock.

There was more water rescue training at Beaverdam today.

“We got dispatched out here for five people that were in the water who had overturned kayaks that they had rented at the facility and it kind of opened our eyes,?? Tarbell said.
As I figured. Expect more of this with inexperienced people in kayaks for the first time.

Unreal. I was out and had idiots at the ramp and 5-6 teenagers in the little 10 fit jon with no lifejackets.

Oh, the humanity. These dummies should get a bill for rescue services.

I'm guessing with the rains we just had that this weekend will be a busy weekend for many rescuers. Side discusson beyond making bad choices.....on pdf's. It's kinda like when non-seatbelt use became a ticket able offense. People ignore it until someone enforces it. And the weird part is the majority of people are not strong swimmers. Even in the Marines maybe only 10-20% of the folks could qualify as a rescue swimmer in a regular grunt unit.

I found this out in Navy boot camp. Only a few of us passed the Class A test. To me, it was easy as I grew up swimming in the ocean. The hardest (scariest) part was diving feet 1st from a tower.
But some of my boot camp mates couldn’t even float, the minimum they had to do to pass and not be held back a week or two in boot camp. I got some extra points from the drill petty officer by trying to help these guys relax in the water and pass their test.

Man, that is a shame because they might end up restricting access or stopping the boat rental.
