I got out solo today. Chilly morning brought heavy fog. I was on the water by 6am.
I could not run, so I just floated. The sun came up and eventually broke the fog....eventually.
The water was dead calm and there was no wind. I was hoping for a topwater bite. Lots of film and junk from the trees floating. I did not get a bite.
As soon as it was safe I headed upriver. I tried one spot and was startled by a guy fishing from shore. His heavy braid got stuck in my TM. Luckily it only wrapped twice. I told him I never saw him and asked why he didn't say anything. I am not sure if he spoke English. I moved to the other Side of the river.
I finally got the skunk off near where we were catching them last trip. First a little one and then a nicer smallie with cool colors.

It was clearer on the Virginia side and most of the river was brownish stained. Fishing was tough. I made a long run. It was not fruitful, but I got to a place that had a nice view. I lost a maybe 12-inch smallie at the boat that bit a tube.
After wasting too much time, I started making the run back. I had to stop and hit the mouth of the creek. There was another boat in the creek, so I turned around and started making my way back. Of course I had to make a couple casts. I got this feisty one on my jig.

That was it for the fishing. Made the ride back and got off the water a little after 2pm. Nice day to be out, but fishing was slow. Hopefully, they are spawning. Four bites, three landed.

I didn't see any fog when I got up this morning! Oh wait, we slept in until after 8a! ![]()
Glad you didn't run in the fog, that did not bode well for a few guys down in Smith Mountain Lake a few weeks past.
And you got some fish!

Thanks for sharing. Nice fish! I have never tried fishing up there before, but you guys make it so tempting for me to make the trek!

I thought that was Smith Lake in Alabama. Did they have an accident on Smith Mtn. as well?

It was in AL. The important part was not running in the fog.
