Got out with my brother-in-law Jimmy again today. We got on the water a little after 6:30am. The first spot we hit was above an island. Jimmy got the skunk off on his second cast with my little bug jig.
Then I got a little one with my little popper. First topwater fish of 2025. Little guy jumped and missed it and then came back and got it.
That was it for that spot and it was a little while before we caught another fish. Then we anchored near shore and hit the honey hole. I think I hooked one first, but Jimmy got slammed on the black bug jig. It was a great battle, and I netted the beast. 21 inches and 4.6 pounds.

We were both taking pictures so the order is hard to decipher. I will just post some pictures in as best order as I can figure. We kept catching fish between 15 and 17.5 inches. Count was keeping pretty even, but Jimmy had the size.

I was up 9 to 8 after that spot. We drifted down and got a few more in another spot.

We ate lunch early and ran upriver to try mid-river rocks for the high sun. Jimmy caught one that has a bigger fish trying to take the bait from it. We caught a couple. We moved to another shoreline and eventually caught a few more. You get the gist.

We got to see a Blackhawk helicopter fly upriver about 50 feet over the water. We saw eagles, the egrets have arrived and the fish were active and on the move. The count kept getting higher, with the final count being 13 for me and 12 for Jimmy. We were getting tired and the bite slowed, so we got off the water a little after 2pm. We had 4 fish 17 inches or bigger. Great day on the water.

I had one fish hit my lure and I missed the hookset and reeling in I saw a fish come flying after the lure, so I killed it and watched it pick up the bait and start swimming with it. I set the hook, but the fish did not have the hook in its mouth. I cast back out and then felt a hit and let the fish take it for a second and then finally caught it. Not sure if it was the same fish, but that one sure was aggressive.
