Last week (4/14) George and I were gonna hit the "O" for some shad fishing. Well, it didn't happen because I had a dead battery (I left the Accessories button on. The one that controls the Depth Finder). At 1st, we tried my portable charger but it got drained trying to start the motor. We then used Don's car to start it and it did but it would not hold a charge. You cant' run a boat motor for too long out of the water. So we went home, disappointed. Don and his grand kids caught a bunch that day in 2 hours of fishing.

After charging the battery at Batteries Plus in Ashburn (for 2 days) it came back to life (95%).

Now...today. Bruce and I had this date on the books since the beginning of the year (1/3). His grandson (Aidan, junior in HS) was off this week for Easter. So met up at 7:30a today.

Everything went great, we saw Don and Joe launch and off we went.

As usual, I opted to go above the foot bridge. Don elected to stay between the bridges but he would soon join us as did Mark and Dave.



The fishing was slow. Really slow. We started at low tide (low tide was at 8:45a) and it stayed pretty low.

Finally, I got the skunk off the boat!



A nice 18"er!

Then a few more including another 18"er and a 17" er.





Then I got a cool quill back carp (snagged the quill).



Then Aidan got his 1st...a very nice 17"er that gave him quite the battle.



As he said, today was quality over quantity.

Both of the other boats got a snakehead.







And Dave took them both home!

We opted to quit early since our tally was only 10 fish (8 shad, 1 herring, 1 quill back). The other boats scored less than 10.

It was eerily slow today.

At one point, the opened the flood gates from the Res and the water dirtied up. We went down below the footbridge and I was able to get a couple but it was really slow.

On to Brickmakers. I had a nice turkey club and Bruce and Aidan had burgers. However, I pointed out a Brunch Special burger to Aidan and he jumped all over it. Two beef patties, cheese, bacon and a fried egg. It was massive. But he took care of business in no time.

We had a great time on the water but the results were disappointing.

Still, Aidan was very appreciative and that's what counts!
