How low can you go?

The Upper Potomac is really low now. Almost as lower as last fall.

George sent me this pic this morning from the mouth of Sugarland Run.

This morning, the POR gauge read 1'2' and is slated to go to 1.1' this afternoon. The predicted rains may bump the river back to 1'2". While not as low as it got last fall, it's getting there.

For me, this is too low to launch my 18'er. If I had a 16' jet, it may be doable but there is always concern to damage the trailer axle. Not worth it in my opinion.

So...we figure out other stuff to do.

Yesterday, I took Luke to see some cool cars that were at a farm in Loudoun County. Good thing we got there before noon because the place was jam packed after we left..

One car stood out. A 1953 Porsche 356 1500 Super. The car had lots of racing history (#61) and is worth a cool $400k!

"More than 130 vintage automobiles are expected to cross through Loudoun County on Tuesday as part of the Hemmings Motor News Great Race, a 2,300-mile, nine-day competition.

The endurance rally was founded in 1983 and features cars that were built in 1974 and earlier. A 1912 Haynes, a 1913 Chevrolet and a 1916 Hudson are the oldest cars on this year’s entry roster.

This year’s course crosses 11 states, from Owensboro, KY, to Gardiner, ME.

Tuesday’s leg includes a lunch stop just after noon at Ken Walsh Farm, at 19135 Silcott Springs Road near Purcellville. The public is invited to view the cars and visit with the racers."

The low water has continued to plague us for most of the year and now...https://i.imgur.com/hc6ddoC.png

I sure hope next year is more normal!

Not sure how I missed this first post.  Super cool car and Luke is getting big!  Glad I got out before the cold snap.  I will watch for reports until I can get in the action again.

Normal....hmmmm.  Not sure if that will be a thing.

I missed this one too

I'm not allowed to go to car shows.  My wife's fear is I'll drive something home

I had a '63 356.  Blast to drive.  Would luv to have one in the garage.

Re: How low can you go?

My brother-in-law bought a1950's wood short bed Ford pick up that was partially restored a few years back.  He fixed it up and kept going to include changing the engine before selling a few years later.  They can be a money pit.

As are boats! lol

About 35 years ago or so, I came close to buying a mid 50's PU truck plus a parts truck to go with it. Our house in Sterling (Ryland) had an oversized garage.

I learned my lesson with early 1970 two stroke motorcycles.  Had five in my garage at one time with the shelves full of parts for each one. Two fully restored and the rest in various stages of restoration or parts bikes
