My cousin from NJ, John, wanted to get some time out on the Chesapeake Bay so I asked my friend Brady if he could take us out and show him the ropes.

We decided to fish Monday afternoon and this morning, out of Solomons.

On Monday, we probable got out on the water by 1pm and hit some known spots around the river but it was to no avail. So we made a run and it paid off!

John caught 20+ stripers and I caught at least a dozen including the biggest at 26"!

The weather was spectacular and we only got chilly on the ride back which was after sunset.

We left the dock at 8A on Tuesday and hit a few more spots (to no avail) and then we decided to head on over to the eastern shore.

We pounded lots of great places (structure, cuts, points...you name it but we were not hooking up. Weirdly, the water temp was down over 4-5 degrees from the day before.

We saw some really fishy areas...

... and even managed to scatter some pelicans!

And we even managed to catch some fish!

It was a slow day but the bonus was that the air temps were 5dF higher than what was forecasted!

The ride back was smooth and scenic.

We say Ospreys, (the military type), F18's, drones...you name it. Lots of activity at the naval air base.

As always, the big negative from fishing the bay is the long ride back. While uneventful, it did take 2+ hours. John had a 4+ hour ride back to NJ.

Great to be out with my cousin who loves fishing just like I do. We are already planning to set up our next excursion.

Awesome pics and report! You gotta try a trip across the bay next summer for specks and reds!

It's been a while since I fished the VA Bay tribs like Mobjack and the 'tank. Gotta make a plan.

This is why I fish, my cousin's recap: "Woke up thinking about the last two days. Motoring thru a flock of pelicans so thick we had to slow down lest we swallow one. Sunset over the cliffs as we wound down on night one. Meandering thru the back water of the Eastern Shore islands. A sore arm and shoulder from the Bonanza at the Discharge. Brady dispensing decades of knowledge. And it was great sharing it with you.

I love being out there. I save snapshots in my mind that come back every now and then. How lucky are we?"
