River 10/30/24

I got out early to hit my other shore fishing spot I always try this time of year.  Topwater smallies were the goal.  Beautiful morning

Started with the little popper.  Second cast had something surface for it but missed.  One or two casts later I saw a swirl and then felt weight.  Fish on!  It felt heavy and after a strong. but uneventful fight I could see it was a great fish.  I got so excited; I forgot the rocks covered with leaves next to me were submerged.  I got both feet wet, but it did not matter.  The fish was strong and did not want to be handled.  I got the hook out and was able to get the fish to lay flat finally.  A wide, but not tall 20.5"er.  Sorry, the lens was a little blurry.  I texted my wife the pix and typed I dud it!  LOL

I tried the popper for a while longer and had one small fish on for a couple seconds.  That was it.  I threw the hula stick for a few casts, but nada.  I was happy with the trip.  Left a little after 8am.

Man that is awesome! I probably wouldn't have even tried throwing topwater.
