River 10/8/2024

Got out around 6:45am hoping to get a topwater bite.  Nice, cool morning with a little fog.  No bites as I figured out the water was pretty stained.  I ended up making a run and then a longer run.

Settled into a spot and anchored.  This little guy visited me.

Finally got the skunk out with about a 14-inch smallie on a tube at almost 9am.  2nd picture did not come out well.

I caught another little smallie and then hooked a big fish.  It was staying down after I set the hook.  I had it on a pretty stout setup (med/hvy 7 foot rod with 15 pound braid to 12 pound flouro leader).  I reached for the net, and it surfaced behind me, but I did not see it.  The fish dove under the boat and I loosened the drag as the rod was bent good.  I pulled the fish up to try to net it and it just pulled off.  The hook was not bent, so not sure what happened.  I was bummed.

I caught one more smallie on the flatworm.

I missed a couple of small bites but the bite was slow, so I moved.

I caught 3 little LM near the mouth of the creek.  Then I moved up the creek.  I caught 1 little smallie up there and ate my lunch.

I tried another spot upstream, but no bites, so I started the run back.  At one mid-river spot I stopped because it looked like a nice rocky area and the water was a little less stained.  I threw out a Big TRD and caught another smallie maybe 12 inches.  I ran the rest of the way back and got off the water about 3pm.  I saw Ernie and Bill putting the cover on Ernie's boat.  I said hi and they told me about a couple nicer fish they caught.

Overall tough day mostly due to stain and debris in the water.

I'd say it was chilly when you got out! lol

Great job getting some.

When I saw John at the ramp as we were putting the boat away, John says, "a little late for you huh?". Yes indeed, I am usually resting by then but no baseball practice tonight so I extended my session. Plus, we put in late.

Time to go fishin' again!

That lost fish will haught you.  Lost a good one today too.  Oh well, that's why they call if fishing and not catching.
