I stopped by the Algonkian ramp to check the river while out doing errands. It was around 12pm and I saw a little 10 foot aluminum semi-v jon with a tiny motor sitting sideways at the ramp. There were 4 high school aged boys (15-18 years) standing near it and I noticed they were planning to get into it and roll. This was a very old jon with no life jackets that I could see and the kids were dressed for a picnic in while tee shirts, shorts and nice kicks. I pulled up and nicely told them that the river was in near flood stage and not safe for them to go out into. I noted that they did not have life jackets and that even I would not go out in my boat in those conditions. I explained that the flow would have them downriver in no time and said I did not want to read about them in the news.
The biggest guy was very polite, explained that he had a paddle and thanked me for the information. I pulled up and parked to go look at the river from where the bench is and I noticed they were heading out. One guy was paddling. I pulled the car around to see if they started the little motor and noticed they were out of site around the corner downstream.
There were 2 other adults at the ramp and neither one said anything. I drove to the maintenance area and told one of the guys there and he said he would notify the park guys.

wow. Good try george! The waters are clearly up everywhere. Safety always seem to be the last thing on peoples minds and especially for young adults.
