It was a fun Summer. I fished VA and MD and got quality specks, plenty of reds, some blues, stripers, perch, and more. Made some good crabcakes and put a few pounds of shrimp in the freezer. Fall fishing is gonna be great, but I wouldn't mind a couple more weeks of Summer.

Always love your reports and pics. How do you catch the shrimp? Those are some jumbos! How was the crabbing for you this year?

For the last several years shrimp have been showing up in the Chesapeake in good numbers. In mid summer they start turning up in small muddy creeks, then in September they start pushing out and can be found in the mouths of those same creeks. I catch them in a cast net, along with all sorts of other critters like that little puppy drum and the burrfish. They get spooked by the boat and start jumping, that's how I know where to net them. They can be found from Virginia Beach to the Potomac, and maybe even further up than that.
Crabbing was productive for me. I'm not real serious about it, I usually just drop a pot near my launch site and then bring a dip net to scoop them off pilings while I'm fishing. I'm usually only looking to bring home a dozen or less.

I've had fried pufferfish and it's good!
Some nice catches there.
Back in the day I would make some long runs to fish. Good on you!

Very cool. When I was young, my dad kept a Carrie Craft Catamaran Houseboat in Solomons, but we took it all over the Bay all the way to the Bay Bridge Tunnel. Also, from above Key Bridge to the Bay when he originally moored it at Fort Washington. I have fond memories of all of the marine life we saw.

VA let's you drop a pot? I wish MD would allow that! Very cool on the shrimp! I got a jon boat last year and have been working up to some eastern shore trips. Lots of reds around this year up here in MD! What's your solution for rod storage? I am having a hard time figuring out where to put vertical or horizontal rods.

Yeah you can drop a pot in VA. I leave it home when I fish MD. You can keep females in VA too, but I usually only do that when I luck into a softie.
I just lay my rods down along the gunnels. It's really all I can do in my rig. By the end of the day my boat is an absolute mess, especially when I'm cast netting. I love my boat but it's been leaking for years and I'm dying to get a new one. Prices have been insane since covid!
