Bev came over at 6:40a and we headed over to the Filling Co. for some breakfast sammies. And they were good!
We got to the ramp and John D. was getting ready to launch so Bev gave him a hand to make things go smooth. He ran up river. We splashed the boat shortly thereafter.
It was a cool 55dF when we launched and the water temps were in the low 70's. The water around the ramp was murky but it was fine everywhere else. It was very clear up a couple of islands.
One of the highlights was getting my FF to work again. I turned it on, tapped the on button a couple of times and sure enough, the screen lit up!
I wanted to try some top water up on the 1st island and we noticed a bunch of geese siting around. As we got closer, we noticed that they weren't moving. Bev then saw a "tent" which was the boat blind. We pulled away since we didn't want to get shot! ![]()

Well, it was not an epic day of lost fish as it was the last time I was out on the UP on May, 24. Which happened to be with Bev as well. Today, we only had 5-6 fish that came unbuttoned.
But we did catch some!!

At this point, Bev was struggling a bit and I had him down 8-1. So we moved up river!
We caught a bunch more...mostly in middle river.
That was a FAT 13"er!

Now...Bev is down 9-8! What a comeback!
We caught some more and lost some more.

We hit an area which had not any fishy features to speak of and we probably hooked 6 fish while I was spot locked. Not all of them made it to the boat.
The big fish of the day was a hair short of 17" with a few in the 14-15.5" range and a a 1/2 dozen or so in the 13 " range. Of course, a bunch of runts also were caught.
All in all, we caught 30 fish from 7:15a to a few minutes after noon. Bev had 11 for the day.
All fish were caught on the Berkeley MaxScent Hit Worm, white and shad colors.
The water temp topped out at 76dF.
As always, we had a blast, smoked some nice stogies and then had a great lunch at the Mediterranean Breeze where we both enjoyed Chef Terry's delicious Steak and Cheese Sammies.
I was home just a few minutes after 2pm. Perfect!

It is always a fun day out on the river with my Cuban brother. Especially when you land 30 Smallies. Can't wait for the next outing!!!!!

Great stuff guys. I always wonder about etiquette when it comes to hunting blinds. Some of my favorite spots have blinds on them but are always empty. I guess I'm just supposed to keep my distance when they're occupied.

You guys were on a good run! You know it's a good day when the stogies come out and you have to stop for more than a few pictures. The duck blinds are definitely a concern since there is shooting going on. And, can you imagine what they are thinking as you happen upon their spot. I'm guessing very annoyed since decoys are out and they are looking for birds to fly in. Personally, I feel there needs to be a marker for blind use. Put a floating marker out 100 yds out and a flag on the blind to mark use. That way there are no mistaken crossings of activities. It's just basic weapons range safety imho.

Once we figured out what they were doing, we moved away. They never said anything to us.
Once, when I was fishing off my yak, I was fishing an island shoreline and all of the sudden I saw two guys in camouflage (actually saw the rifle barrels). I was startled and apologized. They said "no worries" and I just floated on by. A little scary though...

Ha! Stogie is part of my fishing process. Usually wait until fish #1 b=t if slow, I'll get one out for good luck. Bev, is very involved with the Retired Firefighters Association. He's always posting events on Facebook. And he loves to take pictures when we fish!

I agree. When Bev noticed the "tent" (boat blind) , I didn't see it. The sun was in my eyes. One of the decoys was even flapping its wings. It took a while for my brain to register what was going on.
