I've been out of work for nearly a year and haven't really bothered with fishing. I've been limiting the use of my truck for long road trips and when I really need it. I was in Maine during late July, early August and only fished for stripers from my cousin's dock a few times with no success. This year I took a motorcycle there rather than a kayak.
Today was the first time getting out locally in a long time. Only caught a single bluegill and a few small bass. I did have a better size bass take my worm at the surface but when I set the hook it straightened out the duolock and it got away, probably fatigued from too much use.
At least I wasn't skunked, I was starting to think I'd never catch a bass.

Sorry to hear about the job situation. I have been there. Fishing is a good way to help clear the mind. Keep it up. Things will hopefully improve for you soon.

always take time to enjoy nature and reflect. Not certain what's up with the employment, but can I ask what kind of work you usually do? Maybe some of us can refer you?

You're definitely welcome to join me out there next spring.

I haven't actually put much effort in finding a job. SAIC came to me last week, I did a phone interview a few days later and then this past Tuesday an in-person interview. It would be back at the same location that I was before but in a different role. I was even offered more money than what I mentioned I was looking to get. They had a few more people to interview.
I found something else much closer to home that I would prefer, but I'm not sure it's even a real job. It's been post for about a year. No direct contact info is provided, so I had to go through the application process. Still haven't heard anything from them.

Next spring I'll be in the middle of volunteer firefighting school. Saturdays are spoken for. I'm starting the EMT course on 9/8. There won't be any spare time for awhile.

Sounds like you're too busy for a job. Looks like you can expand your outlook for a job with firefighting and EMT training.
Years ago, with EMT training, I was able to drive an ambulance, a limo, and work part time at a hospital. Allot of stuff happened in the back of a limo where having a back ground in EMT would come in handy. Not sure why I got the hospital job because of EMT training, it was in the pathology/histology departments?
