Ernie,

Do you happen to know how deep the water is towards the middle of the cove behind your house? Have you had a lot of luck catching any fish near the underwater pump in the winter?

I tried to fish today behind your neighbor's house but it was all covered in a thin sheet of ice. The water behind your house was not frozen but I did not get any bites. Do you and Curly ever fish out there in the winter? If so, do you guys ever catch anything. My wife thinks i'm crazy going out there this time of year. I have never fished in the winter but according to the some fishing sites, people catch alot of fish suspended in the thermals. Do you think live bait with a egg/slip weight would work if cast out towards the deep end of the lake?

The water where the underwater pump (behind my house) is 5-7 feet deep. There is a nice drop off right behind my neighbor's house. I can show you pictures of it when the lake was emptied.

I once (in front of Curly) caught a 3 lb+ bass right behind my neighbors house in January. The lake was partly frozen and I threw a zoom lizard on top of the ice, worked it slowly and as soon as it hit the water, the bass slammed it. I now that Curly catches fish every month of the year!

And yes, a Carolina Rig will definitely work out deep! Only problem is detecting the take.

I'd love to see the photo of the lake when it was empty. I hear that deep dropoffs are ideal wintering holes for fish. I have yet to catch a bass in the winter so your 3 pound catch is impressive.

Btw...do you think that old christmas tree structure you guys sank a while back still there?

Stop by the house anytime (have to coach at 4 today) and I will show you the photos.

I think think the tree is still there. Years ago, I sunk 2-3 tees at the mouth of the cove behind my house and I would catch a ton of bass and crappie from there. That's he main reason why I never "move" when I fish. It was a magnet. Most of that stuff is gone but I am sure there is still a small pile there. I would love to add a few more trees to that pile.
