Andrew and Matt thoroughly enjoyed the tournament, and want to thank the Broad Run club for being such gracious hosts.  I think their interest in starting a club at Briar Woods was stoked, and I'll encourage them to follow through.  Potentially we could have an inter-high school tournament next spring.  Thanks again for the great day and hospitality!

Well done everybody. Garrett, it seems that your time on the water paid off nicely!

What was the winning pattern?

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

I think he was wacky-worming--but then again, so was everyone to some extent or another.

I will be glad to host next year's tournaments as long as I know the dates ahead of time!

Re: BRHS Fishing Club Tournament results, 5-30-09

I fished a small senko all over beach wacky style, and gave a lot of motion by lifting the rod up and down.  I then would pause for a couple of seconds and they couldn't resist it! On my first two cast of the morning i caught a fish and didn't set the hook on the thrid cast, but the fourth cast i caught another one. I ended up with my limit of fish with in 15 min. The rest of the day i looked to get some upgrades on the smaller bass i caught. I fished the small senko for 2 hrs w/ great success on all my small bass. I then switched over to a bigger senko and fished it the same way, and caught a nice 18.5 in bass. When I was twitching the rod upward I all the sudden felt something slam it so I set the hook, then before I could re- set my drag the fish began to pull line like crazy. My adrinaline was so high when I pulled it in, because this was my biggest fish in Virginia. After awhile the worm bite slowed down so I switched over to a crankbait on alder and caught a 15.5 in and a 17 in bass, my biggest fish on Alder.  I made a quick run up to ceder and fished the very back, and switched over to the small senko and caught a fish on 3 straight casts( all 12-14in.)  one really funny thing that happened when I was fishing the small senko I cast out and didn't get any bites so I began reeling in the worm, then I see a bass come charging toward it like it was a top water bait and it hammered it. The fish was 15 3/4 in. Overall it was my best day of fishing for the tournament I had 29 fish 1 shy of the record so I went back out at dusk and caught another 9 in the back of ceder on the small senko. (some fish pics to come of the day!)
