I took a couple of friends fishing today. They made the drive from Arlington/Alexandria so I wanted to get them on some fish. Boy did I...or shall I say, did they?!
Here is an action shot of Brent fighting a fish which he initially said should only have weighed about a pound...it was a bit more!
Brent fouled hooked this monster and even had people come out on their decks and take pictures. Ugly, scaley, but huge!
On a more realistic level, Brandon was working his fly fishing skills and landed a bunch of bluegill, but this was his first of the day...
I ended up with a few bass myself, but this trip was for them. Good times and tight lines!

I know that carp!! I have a picture of it or his mother when we drained Cedar and I transported a couple of those monsters to Beech!
What a thrill that must have been to reel him in!

John Odenkirk said that carp must be removed from the lake. We tried to get it.......... two Aprils ago, during the electroshocking study. He called it a German carp or something like that............he said it was very bad for the lake.
What the hell do you do with it if you catch it then if you dont throw it back... cant eat the damn thing. Carp tastes like sh..t

My first thought was Kahn must be jealous.

By the way many cat fisherman use cut carp for bait.

Quite the chatter!
We did not weigh the carp, but it looked to be anywhere between 30-50 pounds. I did not throw it on my scale.
I almost called Ernie/Curly because the fight was over 20 minutes. He was using spinning tackle and 10lb line and had it securely hooked through the tail. He basically dragged it to the shore.
It was possibly the ugliest thing I have seen in the water (uglier than a snakehead) and the scales were huge. If we somehow get that on shore again (though I am not likely to try), we'll dispose of it accordingly.

lol, wow. At first, I thought you photoshopped that carp in! A monster for sure...

looks a bit like a mirror carp. except normally those have a few large scales on a leathery skin. very odd. some sort of hybrid maybe.

maybe we need to have a carp derby - I've heard they can be eaten if prepared right and I'd be willing to try it

Yeah, I've heard that soaking them in vinegar helps to dissolve some of the small bones. But I'm still not sure I am brave enough to try it.

maybe we'll got target them when ya get your new rod.
I'll eat a lot of "strange" stuff, might as well have carp.
speaking of rods - its getting close to done - its down to the details, which takes the longest, especially when ya gotta wait for stuff to cure and setup, etc - I'll let ya know as soon as its done and we'll figure out a time to had it over and maybe get in some fishing too

That thing looks UGLY!! You are right Jeff, I am jealous that he got a chance to fight one of those guys. They are almost impossible to bait and catch.

Sounds good. I appreciate your efforts and I look forward to breaking it in.
we don't use the 'b' word in the rod business
you're more than welcome to take the skunk off, but there'll be no breaking of any kind, lol
