LKA Bass Survey 4-22, 23, and 24th 2024

Day one was down lake.  Shocked from dike 2 to the dam.  Shocked up ~170 bass that were measured and released, BF was just over 5 lbs.  Here is Odenkirk measuring one of many bass.

Day 2 was mid lake.  Shocked mid lake and netted over 330 bass.  Maybe 3 dozen in the 4+ lb range.  BF was 6.8 lbs.  Also collected 15 Northern Snakeheads (NSH).  There were plenty of NSH filets to go around afterwards.

Ernie may be able to post a short video of the shocking process where the boat is moving at about 3 mph.

Very cool and some nice snakehead fillets for all.

When I saw Odenkirk at the "O" on 3/25 at the ramp, he gave me some of his marinated snakehead to taste. It was really good. I really don't care how you cook it, it's always good. I may need to start going after them again...

That is a mess of Snakeheads!  A little surprised about the LM sizes.  Thought there would be more larger ones.  Very cool and important work they do.

Curly,
Thanks for the interesting writeup and pictures. Just curious...after they get all of the data, what's the process for putting the fish back? Single point of release or back to the initial lake section? Any kept for breeding? Any released in other VA waters?
