Is the shad bite over? Will there be a 2nd run?
After all, the water temps just hit 60dF. Should be prime time.
After fighting a bunch of traffic, Bev and I launched a little before 9a.
I recognized a car in the parking lot.
Bev loves to take pics and post 'em on FB!
As we got to the fishing place...
...I saw Dave Antos in his kayak. We chatted a bit and he had already caught some.
We fished the middle and Bev was able to get the skunk off...
...but I wasn't feeling so I decided to move up to my spot.
On the way, we chatted with Paul Ketrick and his guest and they had caught a few as well.
Ahh...in my place!
It did not start out like I wanted up top but we caught some. In less than 2 hours, we caught 30 some.
But what I noticed is the lack of size. Most were small males with only a couple of females caught.
Another observation was the number of fish lost while reeling in. Not just swing and misses but a declared "fish on" scenario. That was frustrating but at least they were biting but not staying on.
I bet I told Bev 4-5 times that we were going to move back down but we would catch a fish and we stayed.
Finally, I decided to move. Paul's team was catching kinda like us and Dave had 30+ by himself including an 18"er! Monster shad!
We picked a few here and there including this double by Bev.
At the end, we caught 45 shad. We were satisfied so we called it at 12:15p. Not a great result for a little over 3 hours of fishing but we caught them. I also found out that Monday was the same. Folks caught them but less of them. And smaller.
If I had to do it again, I would have stayed up top the whole time.
As we headed out, Bev mentioned that this place has a great crab cake sammie!
Lunch was good. I had a burger with tons of onions and Bev had a turkey and avocado on a croissant that he raved about.
Great fun today!

Thanks for the report! I haven't heard a few of those names in a while, so it's good to know they're still out there doing their thing. I was catching some large ones along the bottom, but you never know with fish. The 18 incher would be a site to see for sure.
Madigans is ok for food. Too bad brickmakers doesn't have a public dock to tie up at like the one on the other side of the river.

I've seen folks do it on the east side of the wood dock. Room for 1 or 2 small boats.
