OBX Report

Drove down on a Thursday and had a kitchen in rental room.
Plan was to get up early Friday and get some groceries for the next four days. Butterflies and visions of giant red drum in the night nixxed that plan real quick. Friday i tried in front of the hotel but rip was too much for 8ozs and grass was also an issue. So we got some burritos from Orange Blossom and hit south beach ramp 48. As we went over the birm to the beach the entire shoreline was covered with trucks fishing. Far as the eye could see. A huge tourney was on it's last day. We found a small gap and parked. Caught everything you could imagine that day. All small till a school of bluefish showed up around 3 lbs each and I got two.
Saturday we got some breakfast at Orange Blossom ( huge biscuits ) and some cherry hand pies. Hit south beach again it was a ghost town with three trucks on the entire beach. Tried three spots but rip current and grass made it impossible to fish.
Headed for 42 and the point. Town was all there with triple parking and the conga line active on the point. Decided to join them and got two nice blues about 4lbs each and two under slot reds.
Sunday we had breakfast at Fatty's with an over stuffed burrito and went right back to the point and caught 4 4lb blues and one small red. Oh and a sea mullet that went almost two pounds.
Monday we departed for home with breakfast at Ollie and Sams.

We never did get groceries and ate ramen each night that we brought with us. No lunch either. Really did not need the kitchen.

The tourney was 100 teams of 6 anglers each fishing in sessions on certain tracks of beach. They had markers up for the section you fished. A judge came around every 45 minutes and verified your catch. 2 sessions per day and 5 days long. You win for your track in each session. Three trucks per team equals 300 trucks plus judges. Krazi right?

Re: OBX Report

Sounds like a lot of effort with some, but limited results.  At least you got out and caught a few.
