John and I have been trying get this trip in the books for a bit. Ernie had won(?) a half day trip with Captain Tom Weaver but John asked him to do a full day and we'd pay the difference.
Met up with John at Allsopp Marina around 6AM. Met with Capt and set off. We were supposed to get 74+ degree weather at home but I figured it would be a bit chillier on the water. It was much chillier haha. I'm glad I layered but i could've used warmer pants.
We set off and stopped at a bouy while captain looked for birds to chase. John fished his flies while i wimped out and stuck with spinning tackle and jig from the Capt. It was a rough day of fishing and we were running and gunning a lot. Flying all over the bay and checking out different structures and parts of the bay.
The fish were scattered and were not out in large numbers for most of the day. Hugging close to the bottom. We found some surface activity with a small group of birds but they were all smaller fish. we did get a triple though! It was cool seeing so many fish chasing our lures.
Because it was a nice day and the fish were so hard to find, i felt like guides were all pretty bold with how they approached any boat that looked like they were catching fish. it was a struggle dealing with trollers and guides using live bait but it is what it is.
This was my biggest of the day
Toward the end of the day, we found a 'large' group of fish. The live liners pulled up some pretty decent sized fish. I hooked into a new fish for me! I really wanted to take this sucker home but Capt said it was short so we tossed her back.
That was pretty much it. I think I ended up with 8-10 fish. Not sure how John did but I want to say.....4-5.
Got home in the late afternoon and was beat. Thanks, Ernie for the trip! haha

There is not a raffle that I don't enter especially when it's fishing related and the proceeds go to a good cause. Thus, I do get to win once in a while. Happy that you got to go!
And glad you guys got out but too bad the fishing was slow. Still, you were out on a beautiful day and gave it a good shot! It could have been cold!! Yikes!
I love that black sea bass!!

Nice report! That's a really good sea bass for inside the bay, usually you only get that size in the ocean.
