10-20-23, 'doah

Today, Bob and I fished with Jason Ford on his sweet aluminum Ranger (18.5', 115hp prop).

We put in at Riverton Landing...

...which is on the North Fork of the 'doah. We fished that section for a bit while we floated out to the convergence of the 2 stems.

We had temps in the mid 50's and some drizzle but we were prepared. Water temp was 57-59dF all day.

I know it was gonna be a good day when a nice smallie hit my lure 3 times while dragging it over some wood in shallow water. But, I did not get hooked up.

Jason was exited to show us Live Scope technology when we got into deeper water.

The weatherman said it was going to be cloudy with some light rain moving in around 2 pm. He was way off as it rained on and off all morning and finally quit around 2 pm. Heck, it even got warm when the sun came out for a bit!

Bob got the skunk off 1st!

And another one!

Then it was my turn!

This is a very different part of the 'doah. Hardly any current as it gets slowed down by the dam. Oh, the water was gin clear. You could see bottom easily at 8' with a cloudy sky. When we got some sun. One could reach down and touch the bottom except it was 8-10' deep !

The fishing was extremely slow but the scenery was great!

Live Scope is mesmerizing. I could see my lure as I moved it and could actually  see the fish take a look. They were lethargic! It was frustrating!

But Bob did take honors!

All told, we caught 6 smallies and 3-4 BGs. Lots of tap taps from the BGs! And lots of channel cats in wolfpacks!

Definitely a fun day of trying to learn new water. A lot of the fishing there is in deeper water which I am not accustomed to. But...the future has some more trips down there.

Sounds like a cool day on the water.  I agree that it seems the fish are in some sort of transition or just in a funk.  Glad you guys got out,

But we were only on it for a short stretch. Mostly fished the main stem.

Nice report and pics! What is navigation like in that stretch of river? Pretty hazardous? I've been to the ramp there a couple times and it looked real rocky.

His boat has a prop. Put in and take out went without a hitch. He went slow down the North Fork and had no issues. Once in the main stem, it was way deeper. I plan to put my jet in there.
