Chesapeake shallows - past month

In the past month I've fished from Southern MD to the Mobjack Bay. Fishing has been a grind on most days, really having to work for those bites but I'm getting some decent specks, reds, and stripers. Grass is abundant this year which is always great to see. Wind has been a real pain, I seem to get blasted by a SE blow every afternoon.

Found this guy bobbing along out in the bay. Not sure how he ended up out there but I took him to shore.

Courtesy of a striper. It was fun trying to get the tail hook out of its mouth while the other treble was in my arm. This seems to be happening to me more often every year. roll

They are there now. Man, that hook in the arm looks painful!  I had a little smallie hook me so I could not get anything to grab it one time and I was lucky there were other fishermen withing shouting distance.  I had to ask them to come over and help me.  I think it was a tight line with hooks in one hand and one sleeve?  Some super weird predicament.  I know Ernie will be chiming about single hooks!  I think using a net and unhooking in the net helps sometimes.

I have a lure exactly like that pink backed one, only with a silver back.  I snagged it while in the Washington Channel.  Who makes it?  I have used it in FL and came very close to hooking a large shark.  It now has teeth marks, but still in good shape.

Yep...I will not get trebles in my hand or arm or legs. Nada! Hmmm...I might have to make a new boat rule! NO TREBLES on the SS Rojas!!

Single hooks or go home!

Great variety, thanks for posting pics of those beautiful fish!

I'm always fishing alone and always hook myself in the hand or arm so I can never do the loop trick. One of these days I'd like to try it! The lure is a Heddon One-Knocker spook. It was originally some other color but I threw some paint over it because I like my topwaters to have a white belly and a bright colored back. White belly for the fish to see, bright back so I can see it.

I should probably make that change for my own safety.

BTW, I went to Chaptico Market for the first time last weekend. I love trying unique foods so I ordered a Stuffed Ham pizza. It was actually really good, especially the crust. I guess that place is quite popular, line for the deli was almost out the door.

Dude!  Always a great report with such variety.  Those specks look incredible. I hear they're good to eat too.  I dunno.  Hope you got your tetanus shot! lol.    You gotta be more careful!

Once you do it, there ain't no going back. I have been fishing them for years!

Haven't been there on a weekend for years! Glad you were able to try it.

But they are always busy. So many different things to try. Stuffed ham is SoMD thing. I love the sammies.
