Way UP!
I'll start by saying that today was a most outstanding day. I got to fish a stretch that I've always wanted to. But we also had a full moon #@%*!!
But you take what you are given and make good stuff out of it.
Both John and I threw the long stick all day. For those who don't fly fish, it's easily 3-4 times (or more) the work than spinning or baitcasting.
We fished with Travis Edens (Kingfisher Guide Services) in his very comfortable raft.
Our 1st fish were teeny but they took the skunk off.
Amazing scenery!
Then we got some decent ones...
More cool stuff.
Presentation is everything when fly fishing. It's cool to run the fly by a ledge and get rewarded.
We stopped for lunch and ate subs from the Italian Store. Always a treat from John!
Was a little surprised seeing this croc!
There were a few ladies floating by on tubes but they were out of reach. They did notice it and I told them to be careful because the big one was still at large!
We floated some more.
We did catch a few fish, some were small though. We threw streamers mostly. John used the CK Minnow and I used a myriad of flies. White did good as did orange/black.
Another bennie when fishing with John.
The tail end of the float was top water time. I threw a crease fly w/ a CK tail and it was getting banged often. Sometimes, 3-4 times. I only hooked up once but I bet I had over a dozen failed attempts to hook up. It was a blast!
The fish were really not chasing much. They were finicky. We had many bites but they were half hearted. They just would not eat. I am sure the full moon did us in. That's my excuse and I am sticking to it.
Still, this was one of my all time favorite floats. It's a long one but we had a blast. We ate well, smoked well and Travis even took a dip to cool off.
At the end, our passage in to the ramp was blocked so Travis got out and wiggled us between some trees.
I need to do this again soon!

What a great report. Looks like a blast and the scenery. That croc is too funny.

Wow, very cool report. I like the idea of italian subs and cohibas although I don't smoke anymore. Wait....is that croc for real? Nah, it can't be this far up north. lol. I'm meeting someone from Philly tomorrow at national harbor and thought about having him bring me a few subs.....hmmm.

Great report. Not a better way to spend a Summer day. Your reports always make me want a cigar, and I've actually never had one haha.

Oh...the rest of the story.
Travis is a hard working dude. There's no going in early for him. He will stay out on the river until someone cries uncle.
So we cried uncle. I made the last cast. I used a back cast to land the fly right up at the pushwater.
All I saw was my rod (8wt) bent in half and the boys saying "whoa". It didn't last long. Whatever it was broke me off. I must say that I cussed very loudly. The echo...

Dang! I really hate that. You will keep that picture in your head for a long time...

Great report! Man I haven't had a Cohiba in a long time.

I imagine it like the cartoons where they are on a snowy mountain and someone makes a loud sound that echoes and echoes and echoes and the frame zooms out and out and out and eventually there's an avalanche haha.
