It had been 6 years since I fished an NHBA tourney. In the past, I would fish with Mike Luparello on my boat while he ran the TM in the places he wanted to fish,.
Today, I fished the tourney in his bass boat. Very cool.
He told me to be ready at 5am and he would pick me up as launch time was 6:30a out of Leesylvania State Park.
It was a crisp...no chilly, morning but very little wind.
We launched and when he went to crank the engine? Dead! It seems that his cranking battery had run down. Mike is a very quick thinker and got his jumper cables ready and used the TM battery to start her up. All of the other boats were already gone and we had to run around the area a bit to get the battery charged up. After 10-15 minutes of freezing to death, we came back to the ramp and shut down the engine. After a brief wait, she started back up and off we went!
We decided to his a grass flat and each of us caught a nice and chunky 14.9" fish. You need 15" to qualify.
Oh well. They were very well fed!
We hit a few other spots and usually, Mike would get one.
This one was the only "keeper" size fish for the day.
We had a great lunch form Santini's but that did not help our catching.
I think Mike caught 5 fish,,,maybe 6. I caught one.
Regardless, after a cold start, it was a great day.
In one of the creeks we wet in to, we found muddy water. But most of the other places had good water.
Only 1 boater caught a limit with most folks getting 1, 2 or 3 fish. Always great to fish with Mike!

Good report and nice fish. I can't believe that fish you caught was short.

Most of the shorts were fat but less than 15"! Oh well...
The wind was a factor at times but not a deal breaker. Water barely touched 55dF.
