Bev and I gave it another try today since we got rained out on Tuesday (we sat in parking lot for 2.5 hours waiting for a rain break...which did not happen).
When we got there, we saw this!
This boat sat in a driveway for many a year until Bob and his son decided to revive it. A fine fishing machine it is!
It was a nice morning since we went out after the sun was out and there was no wind.
The skunk came off soon enough...
And then Bev caught his 1st shad ever!
He ended up with 29!
Interestingly, we never fished up above the footbridge where we normally fish. The water coming our of the reservoir was roaring and there was white water in my favorite stretch. Not only that but the current between the bridges was also very swift. But the main reason that we fished where we did is because Bob said that's where they were.
We went up a little past Bob and we started to catch them at a steady pace. It did not take long for Bev to understand that you have to give your lures some action, whether fast or slow. It was fun watching him learn and catch!
Here are a bunch more catch pics.
We (Bob and I) were the only two boats there for a while but then an armada showed up.
I didn't take a pic upriver, there were 2-3 more boats above us.
This is Capt. Rich Johnson's new (to him) River Rocket.
Starting today, he has trips scheduled for 17 straight days!
We ended up with 64 shad. Bev didn't want to quit. He took zero breaks!
The wind kicked up against the current towards the end and it was frustrating me since my TM doesn't always want to spot-lock (that will be fixed soon).
Of course, we had lunch at Brickmaker's and it was just great. Bacon burger w/ swiss and shrooms.

What a report! And Bob looks so cool in his boat! You guys got into some fat ones! Good timing, I would say.

BTW, Bob caught somewhere around 70...by his lonesome.

The C-Hawk is a 1986. Ernie said driveway, but it spent at least 25 years alone in the woods, full of leaves, sticks and squirrel poop.. It's on it's second trailer, second trolling motor and third outboard. The refit happened in 2021 with a 4' x 5' section of floor getting replaced. The 1996 evinrude 70 hp was redone, but had an intermittent problem running at low rpm. It kept shutting off so it got shut out by a 2021 yamaha 70hp 4 stroke. Lost 12 mph to the 2 stroke, but it's super quiet and it runs. Trailer was just overdue, since Long Trailers was out of business making replacement parts impossible. Went from rollers to bunks with the new (2021) Load Rite. Boat sits nearly 18" lower on the wider Load Rite making launching and driving back on much easier alone. Trolling motor was a no brainer. the old minnkota was a 12v with 24# of thrust, and foot pedal. After fishing with E. I knew I had to have spot lock. New minnkota is the riptide (salt water) Terrova 12v with 55# thrust and a remote. Any questions I had were answered yesterday when it held it's spot in that screaming current.
Always loved fishing from the C-Hawk, but it got too small when the kids grew up. Now my baby is back, watch out fish.

That is a perfect set up for that area and a great job on the resuscitation of a classic!
