Getting closer to the run!

Bob and I were on the water by 8a...a little chilly (yes, I was grumbling a lot) but not bad.

While Bob has a slightly bigger tackle bag, this is all that is needed.

In all honesty, you could bring a zip lock bag of darts and a spool of 8# or 10# line and you're in like flint.

We started in the faster water and got zero hits. I do know that a few were caught up there on Saturday so we were bummed!

We moved down a bit and this time, I got to take the skunk off the boat!

Of course, Bob followed up quickly!

Most of the fish we caught were bucks in the 14.5- 16" range. All fat. healthy and feisty!

While out there, we ran in to a good friend, Carl Dattel who was fishing alone in his more than nice Lund fishing machine. He was not able to score in the short time he was there. I think he wanted to get out on the big river to see if any of the big stripers would come play with him. Last year, he scored two over 40" in the Potomac.

This would be the 1st of Bob's two doubles!

The fishing was slow at best. But every time I marked a school (few and far between), we (Bob) would catch one or two. Then, long dry spells.

Towards the end, Bob caught the biggest!

Bob kept taking about Brats for lunch and I was starting to get hungry. He asked me to hit a spot on the way out so I scooted over there. And I marked a school!

Sure enough, he hooks up. Another double. No pic but he got a jumper that was leashed. It was kinda funny, the fish came out  of the water briefly but got pulled down by the bigger fish.

We ended with only 15 hickory shad but we gave it our best. Bob kicked my hiney!

It's only the beginning.

Great to see.  I chased smallies, but boat motor issues put a damper on my day.  I need to get out there.  Plan to take Emerson if they are still running during his Easter break.
