Well, I tried. Hit Burke Lake and fished for bass and Pickerel. Skunk-o!
Fished from about 7:30am until 1:00pm. Tried cranks, swimbaits, underspin, jerk baits, and George's spinner for the Pickerel. Snot grass was the main issue in shallower water. Limited options and had to go deep.
Nice day after the sun got up.

Back in the day we'd drag Carolina rigs with a giant night crawler for eels in that lake

Last time I caught a fish at Burke Lake...I had dark hair!

That's it! I should have fished for eels!
I would have enjoyed it more if I could have used lures without getting green slime on them every time. There were 4 other guys out there and I did not see any catch a fish. Lots of fish on the finder and some shad surfacing from time to time. Water was about 42 degrees.

I've never caught one, but remember reading reports of big stripers in that lake.
All the snot grass is not good. Choke out the O2 fish need

One of the toughest lakes there is. Thanks for the report.

There used to be stripers in Beaverdam Reservoir, but I never heard of them on Burke. They tried them in different lakes back in the 1970's.

I know a guy who may have known the guy that may have been responsible for stripers in the reservoir
But yeah, they found their way into Burke too. At least they did back when I first started exploring places to fish when I moved to VA

"Go Deep, Luke" (stupid star wars reference that isn't nearly as funny as when I thought of it).
I have been told by my son that going deep on Burke is the only way to catch fish. He has caught a few there, but always had a tough time of it.
