John Kuriawa and I have been trying to schedule a fishing trip for a while but schedules and weather kept getting in the way.
But not today!
We met at the boat at 11a and we were greeted by a glorious day!
After loading the gear on the boat, we were on our way to his favorite pickerel spots!
Pickles were our target...exclusively!
John started with a 4" hard plastic jerk bait and connected immediately!
And then a few more before I had my 1st one. I was using a 3" hard plastic jerkbait.
But his hot lure was an inline spinner that was just deadly.
All told, John caught north of 25 pickles...I had 15 or so.
We had 3 bite-offs and many failed hookups including one (for John) that I saw at the bow of the boat that looked like a pike!
I threw 3 -4 different spinner baits and never had a look. As well, I threw a soft plastic paddle tail (weedless) but only had 2 half hearted attempts at it.
John threw a weedless soft plastic fluke and he caught a few but missed more. It's hard to set that single embedded hook in them but the bait was effective.
At one point. I put on an old 3" spy bait (top water prop) to experiment and had 7 excellent hits but I only felt weight 1 time. I went fast, slow and erratic but they just kept missing the lure. The experiment was semi successful. We raised fish but unfortunately, landed none. John will tell you that I was giggling like a kid though...what blast!
We also caught a 1/2 dozen or so yellow perch...
Here are some more shots...
Our biggest for the day were just over 23" each.
To say that I had a blast is an understatement! Not sure I've ever seen that many pickle boated in one afternoon outing. And we lost so many as well...
We quit around 4:30p as the sun was starting to drop.
So sad that our days are so short now. I wouldn't care if it was cold but to have near 70df temps in November?
EPIC!!

I forgot to add that the water was really clear and you could see many of the hookups...almost like sight fishing. One time, I was just taking the lure out of the water and a pickle snatched it. Another time, I saw the follow and just slowed it down enough to see the take. Never reeled it in, just played it for the net man. It was cool!

Wondering if one of the safety spinner white perch jigs would work?

They absolutely have worked in the past...but not yesterday. They were part of my repertoire. However, the pickles will tear them up...literally!
