With the river still a little high, I decided to give the dead sea a shot. First time this year. I got out early and was fishing by 6:45am. The morning was overcast with some sprinkles off and on. I noticed the cove was muddy, so after no hits on topwater or shallow diver, I decided to work shoreline cover with a tube and ned rig. I finally caught a small bass on the ned rig and was glad to get the skunk out. I went over to the other shore and started skipping a smoke purple tube. It looked like a baitfish in the stained water. I got hit near the weedline and it was a pickerel.
Next I skipped my tube between two branches on a blowdown and hooked a nice fish. It was strong, but the fight was short. It measured 21.5" and was around 5 pounds.
That made my morning. I moved down the bank using that same tube. I hooked a small pickerel that released right as I lifted it out of the water. I moved to the next cove and did the same. The sun was coming out and the bite slowed I finally got one working the shady bank on the main lake in a blowdown. It was 16"

I worked my way backward to the cove again. I missed one fish that took off with the tube. I had another chase it to the surface when I was reeling it in. I finally hooked one skipping under an overhang. It was 15.5"
I worked the shoreline on the main lake after that and managed 1 small pickerel and 2 small bass on a Rebel Humpy. The sun came out and the fishing got slow. I decided to eat my lunch and head back early. I worked the shore a little on the way back and managed one more small bass on a tube (different color). I was off the water by noon. Productive day for that lake with 7 LM and 3 pickerel.

Nicely done! Pickles are a blast and the big bass was nice!
It's been a loooong time since I fished that place with Carl. I had dark hair and was probably in my 30's!

I have had banner days on that lake with 40 LGMouth in a day , 70 crappie in a day and catfish so big and many the stringer was to big to lift.
Let see that was 1971.

Really nice catching! Smoke/purple is my all-time favorite tube color. I like it for senkos too.

I've never caught a pickerel in 40 years in greater Northern Virginia. Had to go down to Gloucester and Toano to catch mine. Really happy to see a few in the Dead Sea of all places.
