Ok, the short story: Hooch met me at my dock with his boat at 6am. I had been throwing my cast net for 45 minuets catching shad before that. We were going live bait fishing, because that was what he wanted to do. I was worn out before even getting on the boat. We slow trolled (0.5-0.8 mph). We put out planner boards with bait about 8’ of line behind the boards. When a fish would hit, would be small to large explosion on top since the bait was close to the surface. Threw a bunch of smaller fish back and only kept fat ones. Ended sometime after 3pm.

Getting old ain't for sissies! Throwing a net is like throwing the shot put multiple times!

You could have used shad swimbaits like the Sebile Swimmer and not thrown the net from hell all morning. I know exactly how 45 minutes of net throwing feels. Had an issue with a cat fishing trip many years ago where I could not buy bait before the trip. Got just enough shad and carp to make the day work. But dang it wore me out and I had bruises on the back of my hand next day.
Good report and very creative fishing.
