7/7/18 UP Great day with the grandson!

I picked my grandson Emerson up at 9:00am and headed out of Algonkian.  Beautiful, bright sunny day with nice air temps and a North wind blowing.  We headed up river and I thought we may have to run up further based on recent experience and reports, but it was not long before Emerson had his first smallie on the TRD.

He caught another smaller fish and then a small sunfish.
I hooked a decent little smallie and then a skinny 17.25"er

We got into a good spot and Emerson hooked a big smallie that was over 18" and had that cool light green color with the stripes.  After a tough fight and a botched net job, the fish pulled off under the boat.  We were bummed, but we got a good look at it as he fought it for a couple minutes.  He proceeded to catch 2 fish on the next two casts, including a chunky 14.25".

He also caught a nice 16.25" chunk!

We floated that spot again and I hooked a monster that looked to be close to 5 pounds.  It was a beast and Emerson tried his best to net it.  It finally went under the boat for the third time and pulled off.  I felt like Ernie did with his, but we both got a very good look at the fish and it was a couple minute battle.  We both had fish break us off and Emerson lost a couple more.  I hooked a couple more on the float back before we left.

We had a great time and were amazed at the quality of the fish we were catching.  The river was not as crowded as I thought and the bite is on.  We caught fish on the TRD, swim baits and I caught my big one on a chatterbait.  Emerson landed 6 smallies and the one sunfish and I landed 5 smallies.  Off the water at 5:00pm.

Way to go...interesting that they were biting so well after the front came in. Kinda debunks that theory!
