6-27-18, Severn River

Forecast was gloomy...

...but they said the waves around the Severn would only be 1' or so. When we got to the mouth of Spa Creek where it hits the Severn, it was a washing machine out of control. That prevented me and John from going to a couple of favorite spots.

Today, we chased white perch...fly only!

We tucked into Weems Creek to get out of the wind and John got the skunk off fairly quickly.

We worked inside Weems and picked off a perch here and there but I did not like their size (John wanted to bring some home) nor the dingy water. So we came out and went to one of my favorite ponds. Luckily, this part of the Severn was tame.

We started catching a little more regularly but it was not on fire.

Then John caught a double!

I then got my fly hammered and I was able to bring the channel cat to the surface for a look...until he got off. Nice tug on a 5wt!

John then gets hit hard and brings up this monster blue fish!

Amazing how aggressive that little guy was...

On the way back, we took a beating and a bath. We had to fight 2 footers coming from all over the place while it rained.

Once back in Spa Creek, it was a bit calmer.

Here is a new boat parked where the Checkmate normally is. Comes with a helicopter!

It was great to finally get the 1st perch of the year, biggest was just over 10"!

Re: 6-27-18, Severn River

An interesting story that I must share. When John and I were ready to leave Truxtun Park, I used the head where the Harbormaster office is. Since it was raining, I had my rain jacket on, my good one from Simms. I took it off inside and hung it up...and left it there.

I did not realize I had done so until late afternoon.

So...I called the Annapolis Harbormaster and told him my plight. He said, "if it's more than 15 minutes, I doubt it's still there". I agreed and in my mind, the jacket was gone. Rats!

Then, on my way to listen to Capt. Dennis Fleming speak at the PRSC meeting, I get a call. "Is this the gentleman that called earlier about a lost jacket". It was the  harbormaster on the phone and he  said that someone had stuffed a green Simms jacket through their mail slot. Then he said that he would gladly mail it to me as long as I promised to reimburse him for the postage. I promised.

I got the jacket today. He sent it by Priority Mail. He is getting a few extra dollars so he can have lunch on me.

As they say..."well, I'll be"!

His name is Tyler Northfield. Hope he can help you some day.....
