I had high expectations for today's trip out of White's Ferry with George after catching a few earlier in the week and having the warm stretch of weather we have had. I picked him up at 5:30am and we were on the water at dawn. It was a beautiful pinkish sunrise and we rode quite a bit upriver before beginning to fish. George struck first with a smallie on a Skinny Dipper near the back of a small island.
We were encouraged by that, but then time passed as we threw different offerings including a Ned rig, small crankbaits, a small jerkbait, a chatterbait and small swim baits. Finally, I hooked a smallie about 15 " at a wash out behind a man made ledge.
A while passed and we both finally got bit behind another island. My fish hit hard an I thought they were getting aggressive.
We fished hard for hours through slow stretches and faster runs. I caught one more fish on the swim jig and then we just fished and fished and talked and then the wind really picked up. We stuck it out until there were whitecaps almost breaching the hull. We called it and then I proceeded to soak George on a very bumpy ride back to the ramp. Wet, muddy and a little disappointed in the catching, but all in all, a successful outing.
