I took my wife down to get in on the shad action with the nice weather. We were on the water by about 8:30am and the water was a nice clear green color. There were a few boats and the usual shore bunch, but we were able to pick our spot and anchor. I was hoping my wife Christian would have as much luck shad fishing as she does bluegill and bass fishing, but she struggled as I caught shad consistently. She was doing everything right, but just not getting the bites. I even switched rods with her several times and I would catch, but she did not. She did catch 2. I caught 37 Hickory shad and 3 Gizzard shad, including 3 doubles.
It was a beautiful day to be on the water. The Ospreys were active feeding and protecting their nests. There were many birds out as well. The wind really picked up in the afternoon and Christian was getting annoyed with her hair blowing in her face. She refused to put a hat on, but I finally convinced her to put on my Santana blue buff. She looked like a gang mama. I started calling her Consuela, my other woman and we were both laughing. We finally got off the water and were on the road by 2:00pm. The fish got more aggressive (strong) as the water warmed. Time to get out!
