I fished open water a couple days ago. Got some dinner plate sized 'gills and catfish. Temps were in the upper 70's

We have to get you back to posting pictures and telling a story. Otherwise, it's just meaningless (yes, I said that ) words while we wonder where you were and what the fish look like.

Anyone know if the Occoquan river is iced over?

Thanks, I'll do that. Forecast for this weekend looks pretty good right now...

After today, it looks like we will be out of the deep freeze. Let's hope we avoid a big snowstorm at the end of the month (just getting things riled up)!

"Due to excessive ice the ferry is CLOSED today Thursday January 18th 2018"
Hopefully the day temps over the next few days will alleviate this issue. I bet most ramps are iced up. We still have our nights in the freezing or below mark. Regardless, it's way too cold for me. I have 5-6 fishing shows taped on the DVR. Time to look at a few.

I called Occoquan Regional Park a couple times but got no answer. Probably a pretty small staff this time of year. I have a feeling the river is iced up :-/

Got ahold of the park. River is thawed and the boat ramp is open!

Let us know if there any YP willing to bite something....

I don't think I'm gonna go. :-/
I have a lot to do, and the low low water temps make me think the bite will be pretty tough. So nobody else go fishing this weekend, I don't want to know what I missed!

I am selling a bunch of fishing stuff at the 7th Annual Benefit (Heroes on the Water) Fishing Flea Market in Odenton tomorrow. Does that count?

Guessing that the ice out happened on the lower Potomac. The UP is ice-free (observation from flying back from Houston today).

Goose Creek has some isolated ice on the banks but floatable
Last pix of the 'mac I've seen were from above Brunswick & a couple days old. I wouldn't launch a yak yet
Shenandoah's iced up

I was at Algonkian yesterday and the ramp was iced. River was not really, though.

Got a report that Riverbed's clear

So is the lower Potomac opened up or what?

Lower like at the mouth? No ice.
I don’t drive over it anymore.....not sure who else has eyes on it.

Maybe Capt. Mike can chime in for DC waters?

Still ice on the shores. River mostly clear of ice.

Specifically, where are you looking to put in?

Gravelly Point, go either way a mile or so, to include the WC. Capt. Mike said it would be iced in until Feb 21. Trying to make a plan......Big O is secondary.

Ha! We were in a deep freeze when Mike made that pronouncement. Cedar is all clear today.....that's all I can help with. So is 4MR but someone was stabbed there yesterday.
Gonna be windy today and cooler weather on the way.....good luck!

No ice from the Fort Washington to the Annacostia today. But on Sunday the 301 bridge had huge chunks of ice skatered about.
The fog was thick about 5 feet above the water this morning too.
