Coast Guard reports up to 5 inches of ice in Chesapeake Bay tributaries. Huge speckled trout die-offs again too

Normally Capt Dave and I try our hand at some ponds in Southern MD or some cats on the Potomac first of the year. Always want to be that first fishing report of the year... Not this year.
So who wants to make the second prediction on Potomac River ice out...my guess is it will be Feb 21st.

No Feb 21st sounds about right.

I tend to agree that we are going to be iced up for a bit....our next "warming" has lows close to freezing. Ice continues to get thicker, especially today and tomorrow.

May be right, but are supposed to get 55-60 degree rain on Thursday and Friday......maybe 1/2" or so. Feb 21 is too long a wait .

Fished an open spot today to no avail

Yesterday I rode my mt bike down to the river along Goose Creek to check it out. One open spot near the VA side where the current is faster (seen to the right) and a larger open area in the middle of the river (not seen). This was the first time using the panoramic function of my new tiny Sony that I picked up on clearance for $30 at Walmart.

That screaming sound you guys hear is me flipping out. Thank heaven there's a fishing show Saturday. Not sure how much it will help, but it sure can't hurt. C'mon Shad.

Bryan- not good news for the specks. Apparently, there are die offs all the way down to NC.

Frederick show opens at 8:00 AM. I hope to be there soon after that. The kayak meet n greet planning meeting starts at noon at BPS. might try to get to that too.

I remember that report. The fish might be out there now, but you'd need a chainsaw and ice pick to get out of the creek. Thanks for the memories.

It's 8:23am on a Monday Holiday. Just got up to 10 degrees now. If it was 20 degrees, I would go find an open spot. No way at 10 degrees .
