Today, John and I did fly only. Nothing else on the boat!
I just don't get tired of this....
We started out top water. At 1st, we threw some gurglers and poppers hoping to draw in the big girls but they were not playing. So we downsized and John caught 4-5 smallies and a bunch of blue gills. I just watched until I finally got one!
Once the sun got higher, it shut down so we made a run up river where we fsihed a shoreline for a while and got a bunch of BG nips but only 1 smallie.
We went back downriver a bit and started to drift and all of the sudden, my stick got hot. I was using a cream white clawdad and it was catching!
I think six in total, all 13-14"! But of course, I did lose a nice one when I was fumbling around for something when it hit. Setting the hook with a fly rod is very different than conventional.
I then switched to a holloweye streamer that a friend made for me for striper fishing.
And just like that the bite died until I spotted a fish, threw a fly and watched the LMB eat it!
Great day out....my 1st smallie on a fly in my boat and lunch was provided by John who brought subs from the Italian Store. What's not to like?

Same as for us
On fire in the morning, then around noon, bite died. We did pick up some decent size smallies in the deep pool in the afternoon
