6-16-17, UP

Picked up Curly at 5:30A and on to the ramp we went!

At 1st, we tried the ledges off the back island and got a big fat ZERO! Disappointing.

I wanted to try the push water again so we worked it hard and all we got were a few BG bites and near hook ups.

Any one lose a boat?

So....what to do? I decided to run to the bottom of the chute and we managed to start landing some fish....

The water was so clear that I actually sight cast to a smallie...and caught him! It was pretty cool.

We then went out to the main part of the river and drifted through shallow and deep water.

We started catching more steadily and the numbers started to mount...as well as their size. Many 12-15" smallies were caught along with a 16, 16.5 and 17" (2.55lbs)!

We caught close to 30 smallies (with Ernie having a slight edge). Curly caught a few bluegills as well. I dubbed him "catfish man" since he caught 3 channels on a jerk bait.

I caught my fish with tubes, swim baits, hula grubs and a ned rig. Curly mainly stuck with the jerk bait.

A couple of times, we would see a riffle and declare that a fish was there....and he was! We also lost a few that jumped  or spit us out.

Great morning out....home by 1:15p.

Great report and pics, that boat is really becoming a legend. While you were hard at it I was driving an electric shopping cart around Bass Pro. Most fun I've had since May 3rd. Won't be long now (I hope).

I think I recognize that boat.  An obnoxious drunk guy who used to camp out on the islands had one like that.

Seeing Curly catch all those fish the jerk baits I really ought to start throwing the ones I have.  Give the Bomber As a rest.
