Well, the lakes sure are active...saw the Crappie spawning in one lake....couldn't get a fly in the water without hooking them....felt bad taking them off of their spawning grounds...so after a few:
I went to the surface with poppers and the BG's were all over it...heck, I had BG's hitting the popper as it was sitting in the water in between casts.... some of these guys were beefy...others just had great colors.
Bluegill:
Shellcracker:
Then I caught this guy...anyone know what it is?
Snuck back out after the thunderstorms rolled through and I guess they got the bass excited....caught several using poppers...this was the biggest...about 15"s....good fun on a fly rod.
Oh yeah....saw this guy crossing the road...."what do you do when you see a large snapping turtle crossing the road? Nuth'n...dem' things are MEAN and will bit your ass!!! Leave the damn thing alone!"
And that's all folks....!

Yes, a shiner. 13" crappie added to top 10 list.

Thanks Curly!! Yeah, its a "Golden Shiner"....well...its a BIG Golden Shiner...actually caught two of them the same size. Bet they were snuggling up to the Crappie nests and looking for an egg lunch.
Thanks for putting the Crappie on the list...I have to get better with the tape measure....if it is sitting at an angle, it makes the fish seem smaller. Need to find a contraption like yours.

Nice report!!! Some really nice colors. All you needed to catch was another catfish and a carp and you would have pretty much caught everything in the lakes! I was out during the last 30 minutes of daylight and there was a bunch of surface activity. I didn't bust out any of my topwater stuff because it's all for bass and I thought it may have been too big. I put on a trout magnet and caught some bluegills.

I hate to be a party pooper, but I believe the crappie started at the 1" mark. Still a winner though
